Washington June 19 AP The Ways and Means Committee approved a 433 million dollar rise in annual corporate taxes as part of a broader plan to cut excise taxes to 1.01 billion dollars pending presidential approval. The package would raise top corporate rate from 38 to 41 percent and cut taxes for small corporations earning 5 000 to 167 000 dollars. The panel vote was reported as 14 to 11 with one Democrat switching sides. leaders foresee a July 31 passage and a September effective date for broad excise cuts on items like fur coats jewelry movies luggage trains and more. The plan also includes 10 percent withholding on corporate funds and other measures to raise 3 465 million dollars beyond the 433 million. Main provisions include a flat 21 percent rate on all earnings and a 20 percent surtax on earnings over 25 000.

Television reception improves in Fresno area from distant Texas stations
