Gas Shortage Forces Navy to Restrict Air Operations

The Navy announced a gasoline shortage will limit air operations. Capt. Ralph E. Wilson said aviation fuel offerings are low as industry favors civilian markets, forcing training to short hops and routine flights only for the Naval Air Transport Service. Army needs are less critical, he added.

Greek man admits killing two children with a baseball bat

A 59 year old Greek restaurateur in Miami told police he killed his children Johnny Christo six and Peggy Marea eleven with a baseball bat then shot two neighbors Mr and Mrs Walter Wolfe after claiming a no good wife and meddling neighbors forced his hand. He attempted suicide and was jailed while his ex wife remains sought. Their school principal described the children as bright and well behaved.

Girl Falls Through Skylight Rescued by Stair Rail

Nine year old Micheline Boudrias fell through a skylight above an eight story stairwell. She grabbed a sixth floor railing to stop her fall, hanging on until rescuers arrived. She sustained a broken arm and possible pelvis fracture at a hospital.

Communities donated 65 to aid Joaqui Carranza a 13 year old legless boy across the Nogales border to buy a hand operated motor scooter The fund drive was organized through The News-Globe and Boys Ranch Cal Farley and Elaine Hale coordinated the effort with checks payable to Scooter Fund.

Oilmen Elect O'Brien to Lead Panhandle Association

Cecil L. O'Brien of Amarillo was elected president of the Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners Association to succeed Jake Phillips. Other officers include Tommy Thompson, Jack Oates, F. W. Wallace, and Lester Wiles. The meeting opened with a luncheon in Old Tascosa attended by over 125, as concerns over the Anglo-American oil treaty were raised by H. L. Porter of Houston who urged action against ratification.

Fire Destroys Wheat in Hale Plainview

A fire started from a combine exhaust west of Hale Plainview Tuesday afternoon swept across three wheat fields, destroying about 2 008 bushels. Wayne Boyd reported the wheat burned like prairie grass as fire spread to Floyd Coleman and Durwood Copeland farms, with 50 and 25 acres lost respectively. Wheat yields on the three farms were generating over 25 bushels per acre.
