Two Borger Men Die In Light Plane Crash

Gus Carlisle Jr. and Jackie Lee Wilson, both 19 and 20, died when their two seater Porterfield monoplane crashed five miles southwest of Borger at 2:15 p.m. Witnesses reported the hatch remained closed and both occupants were crushed. Carlisle rented the plane at Bonavista airport. he was a general laborer for John Turner. Wilson worked at Panhandle Steel Co. Funeral services for Wilson and Carlisle were to be announced by local funeral homes.

Simpson's Statement on Estate Life Insurance Case

Col. E. A. Simpson of Amarillo, attorney for John McCarty and Estes Life Insurance Company, says a suit will be filed against the Texas Insurance Commission, the state liquidator J. D. Wheeler, and associate J. W. Pierson if needed to address harm to McCarty as president and to Estate Life Insurance and its stockholders. He argues Estate Life was foisted with Physician's Life obligations without corresponding assets and urges state agencies to protect the company. He cites McCarty and notes policyholders of Physicians Life may have a valid action against the commission and its liquidators.

Eleven year old Heide Fowler visited Santa Claus Indiana where she was crowned honorary mayor after touring sights and receiving gifts. She handed out wooden nickels from the Dalhart Chamber of Commerce good for five cents at local stores before 1957, while Santa greeted her and her mother at Evansville Airport the previous night.
