Antelope Season Opens With Lobos in Lone Star Clash

Sul Ross Lobos travel to San Marcos to face unbeaten Southwest Texas in the Lone Star Conference opener. Sul Ross Enrollment Rises Four Percent In Fall Figures

Sul Ross State College Alpine reports fall enrollment up 4 percent with 188 registered for classes sliding from 1798 last year. The official Coordinating Board count shows 1866 students as of Sept 19 and full-time student equivalent climbs to 892, a 7.9 percent increase and the highest in five years. Dr Norman McNeil notes the gain, especially in full-time equivalents, and pledges to keep pace with growth.

Rotary Chief to Visit Alpine Club Thursday

Wilfred McCormick district chairman of Rotary International District 552 will speak at the Alpine Rotary Club meeting today. The Albuquerque author, on a tour of district clubs, will praise Alpine Rotary for its global service role and report on committee plans from a high level assembly.

Enchilada Supper Aimed at School Project

Alpine Buck Booster Club sponsors an enchilada supper at Central School Cafeteria tonight at 5 30 to raise funds for a new film projector for the public schools athletic department. Menu includes enchiladas bears rice cole slaw and coffee or tea. Tickets are 1 for adults and 50 for students and available from Buck Boosters or at the door. Serving continues until 7 39 p.m.

Big Antelope Crop Reported in Trans Pecos Region

Antelope numbers in the Trans Pecos rise sharply with a record count of 1 595 head. Aerial surveys in the Big Bend Davis Mountains area show increases across all age classes due to favorable rainfall and range conditions. The season opens Saturday September 3 and runs through October 8. Funeral services announced for Richard Lewis, former Terlingua Alpine resident, in Little Rock Arkansas.

W T Johnson Rites Tuesday

Wesley Thomas Johnson 79 retired railroad foreman died Sunday after long illness. Funeral held Tuesday at Fifth Methodist Church with Rev. Edwin Chappell officiating. Burial at Elm Grove Cemetery. Survived by two daughters and other family. Born November 22 1887 in Denison he served over forty years with the rails and was WWI veteran and American Legion member.
