Parkland Matadores Face Alpine Bucks In District Clash

The Parkland Matados from El Paso travel to Jackson Field to meet the Alpine Bucks in a district GAA showdown at 8 p.m. An estimated 165 public school players will join for pre game calisthenics as Parkland seeks to snap a four game skid. Alpine coach Boze Ansley recalls the 1966 season tough rivals and Parkland’s strong performance outside Monahans. HAL WON 3 Pasidand brings a 3 1 record into the game after a 22 13 loss to Marfa Shorthorns. The Matadors boast wins over Dell City Clint and Socorro with seven returning starters on offense and defense from 1966.

Alpine bids open for municipal swimming pool project

Pep Rally Friday Ahead of Bucks Matadors Game

A downtown pep rally is set for Friday at 3 10 on the Brewster County Courthouse lawn. Alpine High students will parade with the band at 3 p m and events begin at 3 15. The public is invited as the Bucks face the Parkland Matadors at 8 p m Friday at Jackson Field.

Pilot Lt. Governor To Pay Visit Here

Mrs L D Gilliam 2nd Lt Governor of District 8 Pilot International will be in Alpine Thursday evening for her official visit to the Alpine Pilot Club A dinner will be held in the Holland Hotel Banquet room Thursday at 7 p.m. honoring Mrs Gilliam. Gilliam of Amarillo was elected 2nd Lt Governor in April 1967 at the annual district convention in Orange Texas. Gilliam is administrative assistant in the Solicitor's Office Department of the Interior. Married to Lewis D Gilliam of Massillon she has one daughter Mrs Jones Jenny Wayne.

Alpine Airport To Get $14000 Grant

The Texas Aeronautics Commission approved a $14,000 grant for improvements to Alpine Municipal Airport. Mayor Homer Hudgins said the City Council awaits further word from the state panel on grant details.

Alpine to vote on 1 percent sales tax plan

Alpine voters will decide on November 14 whether to approve a 1 percent sales tax that would raise state 3 percent total collections for the city. Mayor Homer Hudgins estimates $35,000 to $40,000 yearly. support from Chamber of Commerce president Verdis Pack. Local merchants and nearby towns discussed impacts and timing with state payments possible in 1968. Directors set 6:15 p.m. meeting for October 10 at the Ponderosa Restaurant.

Alvine High School Pep Squad hosts a powder puff football game at Buck Stadium at 7 tonight. Freshmen and Seniors coached by Dianne Stillwell face Juntos and Sos led by Jill Starr and Ted Gey with tickets 25 cents at the gate. Proceeds boost school spirit for the Bucks as Sophomores and Juniors attack led by Cheryl McCollister and team.
