Scrap Metal Campaign in Alpine Tops 20,000 Lbs
Approximately 20 000 lbs of scrap metal have been collected in Alpine during the current campaign. J B Keefer Jr co chair man of the county committee said this is small but noted four carloads or more totaling around a quarter of a million pounds have already been shipped. He expects more piles in the mining area to be collected once trucks are secured to haul them to town.

Treasurer Mrs AE Owens reported 89 79 on hand. Vice president and program chair Mrs John D Young presented the yearbook theme Better Youth for a Better World. Ways and Means chair Mrs W D Burcham outlined a carnival plan and urged cooperation for October 8. Membership chair Mrs John Clanton described the drive October 5 to 9 with room contests for highest membership percentage and for full enrollment. Publications chair Mrs J M Floyd urged subscribing to state and national PT magazines, with a motion to subscribe to the national magazine for president and vice president carried. Hospitalty chair Mrs Guy Crawford welcomed attendees and introduced Superintendent Mr Bankhead, who spoke on wartime difficulties and rising costs. Music chair Mrs Bogel featured three ninth grade girls Margaret Ann Wilson, Doris Jean Hat, and Joyce Nevill in musical numbers.
