SP Train Schedules Change In Alpine Sept 27

Southern Pacific schedules in Alpine shift starting 12:01 a.m. Sunday September 27. Train No. 2 eastbound arrives 8:36 p.m. instead of 9:12 p.m. Train No. 1 westbound departs 8:12 p.m. instead of 1:28 p.m. Agent J. M. Floyd announced yesterday.

Second Feeder Tour Plans After Successful Event

The Highland Hereford Association planned a second feeder tour after last weekend's trip through Presidio Brewster and Jeff Davis Counties, attracting over 80 feeders from Illinois. Charlie Scruggs of Dallas presented a certificate of achievement to the association for leading a brucellosis eradication effort, with Keesey Kimball accepting for Alpine. A future August tour in Texas Big Bend and Davis Mountains is planned, with possible a group trip to the corn belt.

Killion Youth Recovers From Accidental Shooting

High school freshman Ronnie Killion, injured when a loaded pistol discharged in a Jeep crash near Aline, is reported in satisfactory condition at Stewster County Memorial Hospital. He was riding with Mike Nelon Gary Clay and Fritzie Weyerts when the accident occurred.

Transfer of Alpine Transfer Business Sold to Bobby Clanton

Alpine announces sale of the Alpine Transfer to Bobby Clanton of Alpine by owner T M Lankford. Clanton will assume the business on September 28. Lankford, Alpine resident since 1919, has run the transfer for 16 years and plans to stay in Alpine with his wife. Clanton has attended Sul Ross College and worked part time at Alpine Drug Store.

Seniors Sponsor Car Wash To Fund Trip

Alpine High seniors will sponsor a car wash at Dick Tucker's Mobil Station from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday September 2. They will pick up and deliver cars with wash jobs at two dollars. They also sell a Mexican supper at the Green Cafe on September 26. Money from both projects funds an air trip.

Rainfall Report for Alpine Area Shows Widespread Totals

The Alpine region received scattered showers over the past week with varying totals. Readings included 2.5 inches near Casner Dam, 1.5 inches at Kimball Ranch and Bill Sohl’s ranch, and 1 inch at several other sites north and south of town. Bennett notes 61.1 inches for September and 1.51 inches for the year. Arley Hunter reported four inches at his home.

Work Delayed on Sewer Line Crossing at Berkeley Street

City officials said the sewer line crossing over Southern Pacific tracks at Berkeley Street is temporarily halted pending a survey by civil engineer Ashley Classen of El Paso. The study will determine how deep the first manhole must be to serve most of southeast Alpine.

Alpine star Beke scored one of three touchdowns for Texas Tech in a 204 victory at Dallas. The Alpine High School graduate snared a pass for a 75 yard touchdown as a sophomore at Tech. The Tech A&M game was highlighted as Humble's game of the week on KOSA TV.
