Death Takes Mrs. Shirley in Alpine Home
Mrs. Fannie Viola Shirley died Monday night at her daughter's home in Alpine after living there three years. Born September 19, 18, in Bee County, she moved with her family to Brewster County in the 1890s, married Ed Shirley in 1900, and long resided in Marathon. Services were held at 2 pm Wednesday at Marathon Baptist Church with Rev. Pierce officiating. Burial followed in Marathon. Survivors include daughter Mrs. Leroy Granger of Alpine, sisters Mrs. Ata Rooney of Galveston and Mrs. Iam Gould of Tampa, Fla, brothers Albert and Pless Chambers of Marathon, three grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

A. L. King sold his machine shop to Charles D. Rogers this week. Mr. and Mrs. King, longtime Alpine residents, will remain in Alpine with their beauty shop business past 23 years. Ditch Work Begins on 8 Inch Pipeline to City Limits
City crews start ditching for an 8 inch water line from Sunny Glen to the reservoir area with a new 3000 foot section of pipeline and connections to the high school area and Central School. The project aims to lower pumping costs via gravity and boost capacity up to 1000 gallons per minute in the Sunny Glen region.
