Uranium Find Reported in Brewster County Texas
A Houston datelined report notes a large uranium deposit in the Lajitas area of southern Brewster county. Surface samples suggest the main deposit spans about 1500 feet wide and 312 miles long, with Universal Service Corp. leasing 30 000 acres including part of the Lewenthal ranch. Lewis Lewenthal says his 30 section ranch has minerals leased to the firm, which has other area leases. Prospecting has continued for two to three years, some by Atomic Energy Commission personnel, and Donald Peters serves as general counsel for Universal Service Corp.

Big Bend Park boosts Texas economy with travel spending
Park Superintendent Lon Garrison told Travel U S 90 delegates in Luling that Big Bend National Park generated about 1.3 million dollars in local spending for visitors from a 400 mile radius. He cited 80,000 visitors in 1953 driving 21.6 million miles, consuming 1.44 million gallons of gasoline and supporting 322 car retirements plus 4,320 tires worn, with lodging meals transportation and retail purchases totaling over 1.3 million dollars benefiting nearby businesses.

The city completes a third water well at depth 350 ft near the Ko kernot lodge bridge. Casing is being installed for testing likely this week, with previous wells supplying about 125 000 gallons daily. The new well could add roughly 75 000 gallons daily to the city supply.
