USO and Alpine Aid Host Smorgasbord for Servicemen
A Sunday USO gathering in Alpine offered a smorgasbord for servicemen, wives, and WACs from 6 to 1, with Mrs. M. J. Sample in charge of afternoon supper and Cpl. Ronney Crut-ter assisting. Donations came from many locals and businesses, and volunteers arranged the event and wardrobe display. A follow up musical program at the USO featured MAAF singers and soloists, with a call for more local talent and a note of thanks to contributors and home folks who helped.

Corral cattle feeders in El Paso county face market ceilings
County Agent W S Foster reports El Paso area feeders are out of the picture as they cannot market fat cattle profitably under federal ceiling rules. The county expects 11 percent cotton yield per acre, needs 3,000 pickers for four months, and discusses tool prices for Acala and long staple cotton. Maize prices in McCulloch county run $2 to $2.50 per 100, with about 80 rail cars shipped recently. Livestock movements include lambs to Ft Worth, and several Texas breeders and buyers across San Angelo, Odessa, Amarillo, and other West Texas points.
