Sul Ross College Boosts Hereford Herd With New Purchase
Sul Ross College bought an 18 month old registered Hereford bull, Don Voluito 42nd, from Perry Cartwright of Alpine for 800 dollars to strengthen its herd. The bull, praised by Animal Husbandry head A J Bierschwale and local cattlemen, comes from Domino Return lineage. The college owns additional stock donated by regional ranchers and invites interest in viewing the herd.

Pine Boy Makes Fine Chick Production Mark
John Dow Harris of Alpine FPA Chapter reports a strong Vocational Agriculture pullet project. He received 49 high bred White Leghorn day-old chicks from the Sears Roebuck Foundation, which sponsors food production efforts for Future Farmers of America. The flock has remained healthy, with 30 top birds selected for productive hatching eyes this winter, and plans to mate with outstanding pedigree roosters. He will return 100 high quality hatching eggs to the chapter next spring for a neighboring FFA boy’s project.

Work on Completion of KCM&O Gap In Mexico Begins
In Chihuahua Mexico on August 20 preliminary work started to complete the Kansas City Mexico and Orient railway from the Texas border to the Gulf of California. Antonio De Vall Jaime of the communications ministry said engineers estimate 160 miles remain of the 600 mile stretch between Topolobampo Sinaloa and Ojinaga Chihuahua would cost 15 million dollars. Along the gap between Sanchez Chihuahua and San Pedro Sinaloa workers are mapping routes and building tunnels and terraces.
