Homer Hudgins this week announced the opening of the campaign for the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego California. A public mailer will be sent to Brewster County residents inviting contributions to build and equip the 15 million dollar institute. Plans call for an open in 1963 with a Tag Day on Sept 15 and support from Mrs Avora Owens and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Students Get College Aid Aid to war veterans' children under Junior GI Bill expands access to college and vocational study.
The American Legion Auxiliary reports federal aid available to 18 to 23 year old children of veterans who died in service or as a result of service. Benefits run 110 dollars monthly for full time, 80 for three quarters, and 50 for half time, for up to 30 months. By June 30 this year, 43,024 students had received aid. the bill, enacted in 1960 with Legion support, aims to help about 100,000 eligible children, though fewer than half of them currently take the benefit.
