The annual Trans-Pecos Institute will start Monday at Sul Ross College with teachers from ten west Texas counties. D M Major leads the session with no night terms, lodging about 50 cents per night, meals vary by board. Reeves Presidio and Brewster counties bring the largest turnout, plus a new section for Mexican children taught by Miss Lucy Hoard. Red Cross volunteers send Christmas bags to soldiers overseas, with twenty five dollars raised for yarn and shipping. Everett Lloyd Tells of West Texas Work in Alpine Visit
Everett Lloyd editor of Lloyd's Monthly and author of The Law West of the Pecos, visited Alpine this week to see old friend John Young Sr who is paralyzed. He spoke at a chamber of commerce luncheon and said his first Roy Bean book sold 10,000 copies in three months and a second edition is planned by Doubleday. Lloyd will include more Pioneer Texas stories in his next volume and sent two new Roy Bean tales from Alpine for publication in New York.

Youngsters Build Miniature Town With Real Electric Light System
In the W. J. Smith and John D. Young neighborhood, six youngsters built a one foot high miniature town in Mr. Smith’s yard. The model includes twelve to fifteen tiny houses, with string lights and real tiny bulbs, plus toy trains and cars. Ross Smith, son of a Sul Ross industrial education professor, leads the project as the main contractor.

Apartment To Open in Time For Institute

Water Struck in New City Well Near Camp Grandview
A new city well southeast of Camp Grandview has struck water and is within twelve feet of the top. Pumping equipment from the timber three well on the hill is installed. A several day test will determine if enough water exists to warrant a reservoir on College Hill. Drill depth reached 546 feet after two weeks of effort.

Court Terms Close as Civil Case Is Heard in August Session
The district court recessed after hearing the civil case Sheehan versus Hadman this morning. Four more weeks will be added to February’s next term. Roy Priest is absent. Judge C. P. Sutton presiding. The docket cleared well. a murder case ended with an instructed verdict not guilty. Grand jury, led by Henry Fletcher, issued seven indictments after five weeks. J.T. Laxton of Alpine received a suspended three-year sentence for sheep theft.

Alpine Woman Cleo Dugat Died After Illness at 86
Mrs Cleo Dugat longtime Alpine resident died Thursday morning at 86 years 10 months while staying with her daughter Mrs B F Herkeley. Born in Coffeyville Mississippi November 20 186? she moved to Texas with her family at 12 settling in Prairie Lee. She first married James Taylor Rupe at 19 and had eleven children, five surviving. After her second marriage to Charles Dugat the couple ranched in Edwards County during pioneers days and Indian raids. She later settled in Alpine in 1892 and lived there until death. Burial took place at Elia Greve cemetery with Rev Buren Sparks officiating.

Dove Season Opens in North Zone Tuesday
North zone dove season began Tuesday drawing many local hunters out to the fields. Officials warn bag limits at fifteen per day or forty five per week and emphasize prohibitions on hunting from autos or airplanes, keeping birds beyond ten days, selling dead birds, trapping without permit, and shooting along public roads.
