District Court Acts on Charges At Marathon
District court this week tried four defendants with one cleared of murder and three given fines or suspended sentences. Andreas Gonzales was found not guilty by instructed verdict in a murder case over a fight last year. Lacardio Jiminez was fined 50 dollars for unlawful marijuana possession. Juan Sanchez and Daniel Sandoval received two year suspended sentences for larceny of two watches from a drug store. Twenty two civil cases were dismissed, mostly dealing with clearances, title issues, debts, and divorces. Petit jurors from Marathon Castoion, Terlingua, and Prominent lists were named. grand jury reported six charges for trial and court officials expect ten more days of session.

Alpine Little Theatre Plans Membership Drive
Directors formalized a full membership drive at a Friday meeting. Supervisors will recruit townspeople, appointing a slate of named officers and setting future revenue sharing, with L. Hanson as rector and Eva Chaffin as business manager. A September 17 general meeting at the high school will debut a member only one act play directed by Mel Blanche Cotter.

Mrs Loeffler Dies at Junction in 1878 to 1900s era text
Mrs Loeffler died at her Junction home after a ten day illness of double pneumonia. Born in Brighton England November 5 1878 she moved to Texas as a child. She married Emil A Loeffler in Kerrville in 1900 and had two sons Louis of Alpine and Reuben of Junction. Survivors include husband two sons three sisters and one brother. Dr T R Richardson editor noted his Holland's Magazine Texas article will appear soon.

Bloys Camp Meeting Ends Forty Second Annual Session
Fort Davis Aug 26 with another busy week behind the Bloys Camp Meeting association closes its forty second annual meeting Tuesday morning. Home folk and an unusually large number of strangers attended. Three camp meeting mothers who joined the first tree gathering in 1890 were present. Notable attendees included former Congressman Claude Hudspeth and Mrs. Thomason. Local hosts and singers from San Antonio were featured including the Alamo National Bank quartet. Ministers and officers from several denominations attended and the gathering continued through the week with lectures and song services.

Indian Chief Rock Beheaded in Fort Davis Earthquake
Fort Davis reports a dramatic quake in the Davis Mountains damaging rock formations near Kohernot ranch home. The Indian Chief Rock near the Kohernot site is described as beheaded and toppled into Masquis canyon. A cow by Expy Miller near Valentine is crippled, and a large boulder rolled from Rimrock, scattering debris and prompting locals to visit the scene. Valentine Earthquakes Shake Fort Davis Area Again
Strong quakes rattled Valentine on Monday causing dishes to tremble and bottles to topple. Eight to ten shocks have unsettled residents in ten days. The Valentine schoolhouse damaged by prior quakes will be repaired, not condemned. Joseph Tower a 34 year old New York City mining engineer who controlled mines and property worth about 1 million dollars drowned while attempting a river trip through Santa Helena canyon near Lajitas Rio Grande. He and two companions tried a rowboat ride when Tower swam to the Mexican bank and was swept over a waterfall the rope failed to save him and his body was recovered downstream by rancher J L Sublett after a prolonged search.
