John W. Sutton of Alpine, born Sept 2, 1860, marked his 95th birthday at Twin Peaks courts. The former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher and New York Highlanders catcher now enjoys good health, fading hearing, and a long union with the blacksmith trade and highway department employment before retiring in 1949.

70 Turn Out For Lobo Grid Drill
The Sul Ross Lobos opened fall grid training at Jackson Field with about 70 aspirants out for tryouts. Last-year lettermen and junior college prospects reported. August Rains Total 4.15 Inches in Alpine Area
Rainfall across the Big Bend and Davis mountains last week pushes Alpine totals to 4.15 inches for August and 7.62 inches for the year. Mountain Lions Cut Down Big Game In Black Gap
AUSTIN The assistant director of Wildlife Restoration reports mountain lions are decimating transplanted big game in the Black Gap Game Management Area Brewster County. Lions main target is deer with antelope less affected. A local manager, Fred Moore, traps lions and notes a male killed several does and fawns. A spaniel named Skeeter Bill confronted a trapped lion but escaped injury.
