Sul Ross University marks homecoming Saturday November 1 with a large parade at 12 30 pm marching from Holland to Jackson Field parade marshal Dean Bill Spurgin and multiple high school and military bands from Goodfellow AFB Del Rio Wink Grandfalls Alpine and more. Ex students greet events include open houses at the Alpine Country Club and Industrial Arts Building with 5 000 plus alumni invited and registration at 8 30 am. A 11 00 am barbecue at Kokernot Lodge precedes the day’s activities followed by queen coronation at Jackson Field and a 2 00 pm Sul Ross game.

Alpine Buck Band Boosters Candy Sale Plans Nov 3
Alpine Buck Band Boosters will run the Halloween Candy Sale through Monday November 3. Band students sell bags of candy in Alpine at 1 dollar each with two five dollar prizes for top sellers. Proceeds fund activities for the band with last year totaling about seven hundred dollars. Parents can join via Mrs. Robert Causey for membership cards at one dollar.

Alpine student killed in highway crash near U S 90
Reba Jean Ripley sixteen died when the car she rode in overturned three miles west of Alpine on U S 90. Driver Janie Chapman was injured and treated at Brewster Memorial Hospital. Funeral services for Ripley were held Monday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. John Wright and Rev. Palmer McCown officiating. Burial followed at Elm Grove Cemetery under Geeslin Funeral Home. Ripley was born August 30 1953 in Kermit and was an honor student at Alpine High School. Survivors include parents seven sisters and three brothers, plus grandparents and a host of relatives.

Boyd Retires After 30 Years From ASC Office
James A. Boyd retires after 30 years of service with the Alpine ASC office of the U S Department of Agriculture. He and his wife will move to Perrin Texas after a surprise plaque presentation by 12 county district employees at a luncheon October 28 at Bien Venido Restaurant. Boyd led the Alpine office for over 17 years.

Nichols 83 retired manager of Big Bend Wool & Mohair Co died after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Geeslin Chapel with Rev James Wayne. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Survivors include wife Louise Roberts brother John T Nichols sister Mrs May Wilson. Born November 14 1885 Whitesboro. He retired in 1960 and lived in Sanderson Alpine earlier. He worked 30 years with Clyde Mallory Lines between Galveston and New York.
