Sul Ross Homecoming Parade and Events Highlight Campuses
Sul Ross students and exes enjoyed homecoming festivities featuring a bonfire pep rally, a parade with a Model T Ford entry, a steamboat float sponsored by the Alpine Chamber of Commerce, and awards for AAUW and Clip and Brand Club. Retired faculty honored, queen Pat Weeks rode in a blue Thunderbird. The half time show included performances by Sul Ross and local bands.

Javelinas Edge Sul Ross 7-0 in Homecoming Grid Clash
Texas A&I used a short Sul Ross punt to seize a 7-0 lead in the Homecoming game. Servando Rodriguez scored on a 34-yard drive after the punt, Gerald Lambert added the extra point, and A&I held off a Lobos rally as Sul Ross finished with 92 rushing yards and three completions for 68 passing yards.

Bake Turner, a Bucks standout last year, plays halfback for the Texas Tech freshman squad. He scored a touchdown in a 21-16 win over North Texas State Teachers College freshmen. Turner, an all-state basketball honoree, is the son of Alpine residents Mr and Mrs Bake Turner.

Industrial Arts Dept of Sul Ross State College won the float division with a river steamboat replica. Marathon High School band ranked No 1. Second float by American Association of University Women. Clip and Brand Club third. Fort Stockton and Alpine High bands placed. other bands from Alpine Junior High Fort Davis and Imperial participated. Sul Ross Lobo band marched but was not eligible for competition.

Grade School Teams Lose Four Contests
Alpine grade school teams fell to Marfa and Van Horn last Thursday. In Marfa, Alpine Centennial Small Boys lost 14 8 to 0 and Centennial Large Boys were shut out 14 0. In Alpine, Central Big Boys lost 18 0 and Central Small Boys 8 0, Van Horn scoring in the final seconds on a pass interception. Next week Central visits Marfa and Van Horn travels to Alpine to face Centennial in the final games of the year.
