Alpine Bucks face Seminole in tough conference test

The Alpine Bucks travel 220 miles to Seminole for a key 4A/4AA conference game. Seminole, regarded as the district power, fields a strong lineup led by a speedy ground attack and a multi skillful offense. The Indians boast a 181-pound junior fullback 162-pound senior center and a 142-pound sophomore quarterback as core threats.

Highland Calves Secure Top Finishes at American Royal Show

Highland Hereford feeder calves dominated the feeder calf carload division at the American Royal Stock Show in Kansas City. Brewster and Presidio County ranchers placed George Jones Ranch third and sixth, Catto Gage fourth, and Alfred Negley fifth. Over 30 carloads were shown by Big Bend ranchers, a first in years for Highland Herefords at the event.

Engineer Conference on Flood Control in Marfa and Alpine

Colonel Reed and Weedser will visit Marfa October 28 to discuss flood control with El Paso engineers Woodson and Ashley Classen. Alpine officials plan a city meeting October 28 to coordinate federal aid and water exploration for the Alpine Creek flood centre project.

In Study Butte last Sunday Mrs Polk Hinson donated four Avalanches and a Fort Davis Post issue dated July 9 1917. Editor J W Campbell defended his stance against the Kaiser while Brewster County oil activity and local notices shape a vivid 1921 Alpine scene.

Captain Ray Williams 56 Dies. Pine Trans-Pecos Wildlife Champion

Capt. A. R. Ray Williams state game supervisor, long-time Texas Game and Fish official, died at Brewster County Memorial Hospital at 6 15 p m Sunday Oct 19. Funeral at First Methodist Church with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Williams led antelope preservation in Trans Pecos, advancing herd builds and controlled hunts. He began with the commission in 1930, promoted 1945 to captain and supervisor of Trans Pecos. survived by widow Velma, a stepdaughter, brother, sister, granddaughter, and nephew.

Rotary Plans Peewee Football Games at SOF Field

Alpine Story Club will open junior football action with a 60 player roster in the ProHran event on Thursday at the SOF field. Club president Jin Vrancois announced two players from Central High and two from Cemential in each bracket with proceeds benefiting the public school system's junior sports program.

Bus Permit Approved For Odessa To Presidio Route

C. R. Bridges of Odessa won approval this week for a bus line from Odessa to Presidio via Crane McCamey Fort Stockton Alpine and Marfa. The Rail Road Commission agenda included Bridges on Oct 9 in Austin. Bridges previously ran the Midland Odessa airport bus service and once operated the Odessa Greyhound Terminal.

Odessa Fliers Found In Burned Plane Crash Near Marathon

Charred remains of Odessa businessmen E R Walker 31 and Doss Millsap 47 were found in a Piper Tri Pacer wreck on David Combs Ranch 18 miles south of Marathon. Investigators led by Sheriff Jim Skinner Texas Ranger Arthur Hill and Justice of the Peace W G Fielder identified the men by rings. They had been missing since Sept 30 after leaving Presidio to inspect the flooded Rio Grande and return via Alpine.
