Alpine based Paul Forchheimer will be one of the principal speakers at a state wide advertising clinic in Austin on December 6. The Texas Press Association invited him for addressing the forum after his talk at the first Texas Press Association convention in August.
Alpine hosts Crane High School in a 4AA Conference opener on the High School Field at 8 p.m. Friday. The Cranes, predicted as the fourth strongest in District 4AA, face Alpine after a four year gap. Starting lineup includes Jourden, Alexander, Griffin, Liverman, Green, Ingram, Coffield, Lee, Hinnant, Freeman, Stiger. The Split T formation supports a balanced attack as page continues.
Sul Ross State College celebrates Homecoming with a 2:30 p.m. football game at Jackson Field between the Lobos and Texas A&I Javelinas. Parade starts at 1:30 p.m. Exes honored, activities run from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Queen Pat Weeks of Lamesa to be presented. The Lobos seek victory no. 5. both teams lost last week.
Brewster County Memorial Hospital observes its first anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday Oct 19. County Commissioners Court and Hospital Board invite public attendance. Baby reunion at 3 p.m. prizes for largest baby and farthest traveler. Women’s Auxiliary serves refreshments. Alpine Chamber of Commerce estimates hospital adds over $1000 daily to Alpine business, with 427 out of town patients in year one and 486 local patients.
Dow subsidiary La Domincia plans a 100 ton per day acid grade fluorspar mill in Mexico opposite Marathon on the Rio Grande. Construction starts 1959 with completion early 1960 and will include housing for about 25 Mexican workers and a river crossing to Marathon for concentrate shipping.
There will be an important meeting of the Cemetery Association at 7 30 p m Tuesday Oct 21 at the Chamber of Commerce building. Perpetual care will be discussed and Mrs Gay Howard and Norman Davis of Marfa will share their knowledge. Everyone is urged to attend.
Ray Williams of the State Game Dept. has come home from Brewster County Memorial Hospital following a heart attack. A 2 way radio is being installed in his residence to contact game wardens across the area.
Governors Price Daniel of Texas Teofilo Borunda of Chihuahua and Raul Madero of Coahuila will visit Alpine for a luncheon October 31 after an aerial tour of Big Bend National Park Their El Paso flight will precede attendance at the International Good Neighbor Council meeting October 30 31 and November 1 Alpine and Marfa Chambers of Commerce host with Big Bend National Park Development Committee.
Herbert L Kokernot Jr said he was unsure about accepting a Sophomore League franchise offer or continuing to sponsor the semi pro Cowboys Official league officials in Midland voted to drop San Angelo and add Alpine Odessa and Roswell New Mexico Kokernot will decide by December 1 and plan to consult Alpine Fort Davis Marfa Marathon area fans Boston Red Sox show interest and would run players manager and salaries if Alpine joins the league

Electrical wiring and TV antennas with Sherman Newsom as chair, Bill Dorris, Ed Morrell, Don Littleton. gas with Ray LaBeff chair, D D Thomas, Cecil Buckner. plumbing with Bob Wyatt chair, Fred Grandado, Alfonso Natera. The city lacks current rules on electrical wiring TV antennas gas connections and tank installations. The plumbing ordinance should be updated.
The 1959 Plymouth display at Graham Motor Co. was delayed by a strike. Jeff Graham was notified yesterday and said the new Plymouth would be sent to Alpine as soon as factory production resumed.

The Alpine Independent School District board on Tuesday night approved higher property valuations to raise an extra $25,000 in annual revenue for the 1959-60 school year. Alpine officials announce a new street from Central School east to Brewster County Memorial Hospital once a bulldozer is available. Legion representatives were briefed on rights of way and a needed 4 inch water line. Ambulance access to the hospital would improve emergency response.
Texas Advisory Board member Hugh S. White urged Amendment 7 in the November general election to allow state funds to promote Texas advantages in national publications. Governor Daniel backed the measure noting Texas lags in tourism and industry while other states invest in promotion.
The City Commission approved three parking ordinance amendments banning parking on East Avenue C and near Fletcher Hall, on Walke Street, Holland Avenue loading zone, and the east side of 4th Street for a bus loading zone. In other actions the city moved to distribute free vaccines to indigent patients, authorized utility work saving costs, planned a water line shutdown, arranged a Pyote AFB equipment move, ordered 16 new lights, and approved 500 feet of dacron fire hose for the volunteer department.
Mrs. C. W. Wilson 77 died at 2 a.m. Sunday in Alpine. Funeral services were held Monday at Livingston Funeral chapel. She lived in Alpine 14 years, born March 20 in Hamilton County Texas. Survived by sisters Nellie Brown and Clara Tankersley of Alpine and brothers Joseph Tankersley of Alpine and Charlie Tankersley of Tahoka. Her husband preceded her in death two years ago.
The Alpine Boy Scout financial drive begins with a Dawn to Dusk Campaign on Wednesday Oct 22. Kickoff breakfast at the Country Club starts 6 45 a m. Jeff Graham chairs the district campaign with Bill Winter Alpine community chairman Don Littleton general solicitations Francois as prospects and rating chairman. Majors include Kenneth Stucke Frank McCollum Pete Dr EB Shortt and Ray Morrison.
Game Warden Sanford DeVoll reminded hunters that mourning dove season ends at sunset Monday October 20 in the Big Bend area as birds migrate south with cold weather.
