Alpine businessman to speak at Texas advertising clinic

Alpine based Paul Forchheimer will be one of the principal speakers at a state wide advertising clinic in Austin on December 6. The Texas Press Association invited him for addressing the forum after his talk at the first Texas Press Association convention in August.

Alpine Bucks Meet Crane High in 4AA Opener at Night

Alpine hosts Crane High School in a 4AA Conference opener on the High School Field at 8 p.m. Friday. The Cranes, predicted as the fourth strongest in District 4AA, face Alpine after a four year gap. Starting lineup includes Jourden, Alexander, Griffin, Liverman, Green, Ingram, Coffield, Lee, Hinnant, Freeman, Stiger. The Split T formation supports a balanced attack as page continues.

Open House Marks Brewster County Memorial Hospital First Anniversary

Brewster County Memorial Hospital observes its first anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday Oct 19. County Commissioners Court and Hospital Board invite public attendance. Baby reunion at 3 p.m. prizes for largest baby and farthest traveler. Women’s Auxiliary serves refreshments. Alpine Chamber of Commerce estimates hospital adds over $1000 daily to Alpine business, with 427 out of town patients in year one and 486 local patients.

Fluorspar Mill Will Be Built In Mexico

Dow subsidiary La Domincia plans a 100 ton per day acid grade fluorspar mill in Mexico opposite Marathon on the Rio Grande. Construction starts 1959 with completion early 1960 and will include housing for about 25 Mexican workers and a river crossing to Marathon for concentrate shipping.

Cemetery Association Will Meet Tuesday

Ray Williams of the State Game Dept. has come home from Brewster County Memorial Hospital following a heart attack. A 2 way radio is being installed in his residence to contact game wardens across the area.

The 1959 Plymouth display at Graham Motor Co. was delayed by a strike. Jeff Graham was notified yesterday and said the new Plymouth would be sent to Alpine as soon as factory production resumed.

Alpine officials announce a new street from Central School east to Brewster County Memorial Hospital once a bulldozer is available. Legion representatives were briefed on rights of way and a needed 4 inch water line. Ambulance access to the hospital would improve emergency response.

White urges passage of Amendment 7 for Texas advertising

City approves three parking rule amendments and more

The City Commission approved three parking ordinance amendments banning parking on East Avenue C and near Fletcher Hall, on Walke Street, Holland Avenue loading zone, and the east side of 4th Street for a bus loading zone. In other actions the city moved to distribute free vaccines to indigent patients, authorized utility work saving costs, planned a water line shutdown, arranged a Pyote AFB equipment move, ordered 16 new lights, and approved 500 feet of dacron fire hose for the volunteer department.

Mrs. Wilson Laid To Rest After Funeral In Alpine

Mrs. C. W. Wilson 77 died at 2 a.m. Sunday in Alpine. Funeral services were held Monday at Livingston Funeral chapel. She lived in Alpine 14 years, born March 20 in Hamilton County Texas. Survived by sisters Nellie Brown and Clara Tankersley of Alpine and brothers Joseph Tankersley of Alpine and Charlie Tankersley of Tahoka. Her husband preceded her in death two years ago.
