Federal inspection of Head quarters detachment Third battalion Texas State Guard was conducted Monday evening by Lt. Col Napoleon Rainbolt at Fort D A Russell. Sixteen men and two officers were present for inspection. Eight new members were sworn in: Arthur Bluchar Frank Daugherty Charles Davis John Davis John Duncan Wm Mountz Nicholas Thee Jr and Robert Winkler. The Presbyterian church finance committee begins a five week drive to raise funds for a new church building after the war. Rev. Fred Rogers notes the project has congregational approval and will use native stone in Gothic design. Windows will match those from the fire-destroyed structure and the first unit will serve as an educational building until the new church is completed. War Ration Book IV Registration Set For Brewster County
Brewster county residents are advised that War Ration Book IV registration will be held today and tomorrow with county teachers handling applications. In Alpine registrations occur at the high school and Centennial school from 8 30 a m to 5 p m with other county sites Marathon Terlingua and Study Butte. The War Price and Rationing board will keep the local office open until 10 p m for air base personnel near Alpine. Housewives may sign up for the entire family, new books issued at school houses by volunteers. The No 3 book must be produced to receive a new book. Book IV combines 384 stamps across eight pages with color stamps and unit stamps, some marked spare, sugar, and coffee for adjustments after coffee rationing changes.

Cadet Seeks Revenge for Pearl Harbor at Pilot School
Aviation Cadet Bernard D. Sbraccia trains at a pilot school to avenge Pearl Harbor. He was at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7 1941 as an enlisted man carried a wounded civilian to the hospital, returned to base, was knocked unconscious by a bomb blast, and now pursues air crew membership. He is in Santa Ana California for training and flies two engine planes as he nears wings.
