Alpine mother receives chaplain letter on her son’s death
Mrs. T. M. Hill of Alpine, whose son Pfc. John W. Hill, U.S. Marines, was killed in the Pacific last July, received a chaplain's letter and a grave photo from John's chaplain. The letter honors John’s gallantry and asks comfort for mothers of service members, describing religious and military tributes at his grave on New Georgia Island.

Alpine cadet earns wings at Deming graduation
Aviation Cadet Locke F. McClure son of Mr and Mrs M Z McClure of Alpine graduated from the Deming New Mexico bombardiers school on October 2 and received his wings. The Alpine native, who had already qualified as an aerial observer and gunner, celebrated his third birthday with the milestone. His mother attended the ceremony as he was reared in Alpine and studied at Sul Ross College and the University of Texas.

Cadets Land Uninjured In Chihuahua
Two cadets from the pilot school, missing since Wednesday of last week, wired Saturday from Villa Ahumada Mexico that they had landed their plane in a dry lake bed 180 miles southwest of the village, out of gas and uninjured. The Mexican Community Center board in Alpine elected Miss Lois Tinsley as social worker replacing Miss Susie Mitchell who resigned due to illness. A new amendment to Rent Control regulations took effect on October 1, 1943. Landlords failing to register rental properties and charging rents above the legal maximum must refund the excess to renters for amounts collected from October 1 until registration and fixed legal rent occur.

Prominent Ojinaga Businessman Dies in El Paso
Pedro L Rohana aged 54, a well known Alpine business man, died in El Paso last Saturday and was buried in Ojinaga Tuesday. Born in Syria, he moved to Mexico as a youth and later lived in La Jitas. WAC Gals In Quick Fire Drill At Alpine Barracks
Students at WAC branch No 7 were summoned from their barracks at 945 p m by a fire siren for a drill. Alpine fire engine arrived as the building cleared in two and a half minutes. Observers included Avalanche publisher D M Bennett who quipped he was headed back to bed.

Approximately 156 graduates from 40 states completed an eight week Army Administration course.
