Boy Scout Fund Drive Opens Next Tuesday in Alpine

The kickoff breakfast for the Boy Scout Finance Drive will be held Tuesday at 7 AM at the Holland Hotel. Funds stay in Alpine for local Boy Scout work and for improvements at the Buffalo Trails Ranch south west of Balmorhea. Campaign teams led by Waite Davis and Major Eddie King, with women volunteers, seek public support to reach Alpine’s Best Scout Drive.

Quicksilver Mine Worker Dies in Shaft Fall

Funeral services were held for Pascual Iniguez after he fell into a shaft at the Fresno Quicksilver Mine in the Terlingua District last Friday. Burial was in Alpine. Justice of the Peace W. G. Fielder and mine operator R. N. Pulliam called the incident mysterious but no foul play was found. Iniguez, an Army veteran of World War II, had come from Shafter in 1941. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Librado Iniguez.

Albine Central School PTA Honors Room Award

At Albine Central School on Monday night the PTA presented the HA room award recognizing active parent involvement. Bogels room reported 12 parents present for a casual meeting, while fourth grade had 8 parents of 28 children, and Mrs. Fern Young’s third grade section had 8 parents from 24 children in attendance.

USGS To Retain Water Office In Alpine

County Judge Felix McGaughy reports the US Geological Survey and Texas Board of Water Engineers will keep an Alpine area water office. Mayor Hugh White and officials secured assurances in Austin. Bob Littleton and Glenn Audsley work on Brewster County water report and office space will continue to be provided. The office serves Van Horn Pecos and Fort Stockton.
