Mr and Mrs Edwin McCollum announced the purchase of Henderson Grocery at 512 W Holland Ave and renamed it E M Grocery Mrs McCollum will run the store while her husband stays on the ranch The stock is replenished and a small meat counter will be kept Also notes Hendersons moved to Mathis Texas due to Mr Hendersons illness
The kickoff breakfast for the Boy Scout Finance Drive will be held Tuesday at 7 AM at the Holland Hotel. Funds stay in Alpine for local Boy Scout work and for improvements at the Buffalo Trails Ranch south west of Balmorhea. Campaign teams led by Waite Davis and Major Eddie King, with women volunteers, seek public support to reach Alpine’s Best Scout Drive.
Sul Ross travels to Kingsville for a Lone Star Conference game against Texas A&I at Javelina Stadium with Sul Ross aiming to rebound from three straight losses. A&I sits as the fourth ranked team in the conference with a 2-4 season mark led by scorers Curry and Lutaler in scoring and receiving, while Richard Stanfield paces punting.
Funeral services were held for Pascual Iniguez after he fell into a shaft at the Fresno Quicksilver Mine in the Terlingua District last Friday. Burial was in Alpine. Justice of the Peace W. G. Fielder and mine operator R. N. Pulliam called the incident mysterious but no foul play was found. Iniguez, an Army veteran of World War II, had come from Shafter in 1941. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Librado Iniguez.
At Albine Central School on Monday night the PTA presented the HA room award recognizing active parent involvement. Bogels room reported 12 parents present for a casual meeting, while fourth grade had 8 parents of 28 children, and Mrs. Fern Young’s third grade section had 8 parents from 24 children in attendance.
County Judge Felix McGaughy reports the US Geological Survey and Texas Board of Water Engineers will keep an Alpine area water office. Mayor Hugh White and officials secured assurances in Austin. Bob Littleton and Glenn Audsley work on Brewster County water report and office space will continue to be provided. The office serves Van Horn Pecos and Fort Stockton.
Alpine High School hosts the Seminole Indians in a 2 p.m. District 6 AA football game. Alpine aims to rebound after a 39 13 loss to Kermit with Freddy Davis scoring all Alpine points. Seminole beat Crane 26 7 last week and sits 1 1 in district play while Alpine has two district losses and no district victory.
Cub Pack 41 will receive its charter at 8 p m Tuesday October 25 in the Methodist Church The charter will be presented by Glenn Burgess institutional representative The program includes skits by the dens pack members listed with several families and committee members named
Gulf Oil Co. No. 1 Combs near Marathon was at 1030 feet in lime and shale in the latest report. Bud Ward, tool pusher for Making Drilling Co., said keeping the hole straight was hard due to the formation. Sun Oil No. 1 McElro in western Brewster County drills ahead below 6500 feet after tool recovery.
Alpine High School to crown Kay Young as Halloween Queen tomorrow night at 8. The ceremony opens Homecoming events, with football vs Seminole at 2. A dance follows, hosted by the High School PTA with Central PTA help.
Rotary Club of Alpine hosts Warren T. Mithoff district governor for 170th Rotary International visit. He will address club officers and chairmen on administration and service activities. Mithoff, El Paso advertiser, born Chicago, WWII veteran, El Paso resident since 1929, elected district governor for 1955-56.
Dallas businessman Clinton W. Murchison buys a 1 000 100 parcel in Simi Valley for 15 wells of water. plans include Riess-Search foundation to study the geochemist’s method for locating water and apply it to arid lands. The move partners with nearby government projects and North American Aviation Company facilities.

Ray Clark of Graham Texas has been in Alpine for several days inspecting cinnabar prospects on 3000 plus acres held by Wright, Clark & Senkel Inc rotary drilling contractors. An investigation will decide whether to hire outside help for core drill tests or let the firm conduct the work itself.
Three engineers nearen pying. Flores Cruz arrived in Ojinaga Mexico yesterday to begin survey work on the highway to Chihuahua City according to information received here by Mexican Consul Rafael Linares.
