Sul Ross State to host 1966 homecoming events and Col Buchannan speech
Col Buchanan of Fort Bliss will speak at Sul Ross State College during a 1966 homecoming weekend that features a bonfire pep rally, ex-student registration, an all college assembly, a downtown parade, and a football game versus East Texas State. The lineup includes music by the Sul Ross Band and Choir, dances, and homecoming queen candidates from several Texas towns. Buchanan recently returned from a Viet Nam tour and directs the low altitude missile department at Fort Bliss.

City Council Approves Police Car Purchase and Other Actions

Alpine voters approve three bond issues in decisive election
All three bond proposals won by wide margins in Alpine’s Tuesday election. Water system improvements of 200 000 received 328 yes to 211 no, sewer improvements 105 000 with 330 yes 208 no, and a 95 000 plan for swimming pool and parks with 367 yes 181 no. Total turnout 561 with six mutilated ballots. Bonds funded from system revenues, possible federal grants or loans hoped to augment funds for water, sewer, and recreation development.

Field Day Schedule At Sul Ross Involves Range Students
A fall field day sponsored by the Sul Ross Student chapter of the Texas Section of the American Society of Range Management is planned for Friday. About 75 to 100 participants including Sul Ross Range Management majors ranchers from the area and Soil Conservation Service representatives will attend. Harold Bryant of Fort Worth will be master of ceremonies. Moe Barbee of Ozona is chapter president. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. with tours of Melvor Ranch, lunch at Prude Guest Ranch, talks by Dr. Carlton Herbel and John Haislet, a poisonous plants talk by Dr. Barton Warnock, and a closing business session.
