At the Border States convention delegates from Texas and Mexico endorsed a proposed giant park across the Rio Grande from Texas Big Bend. They backed a highway from Villa Acuna through the new park to Musquiz and urged easier tourist entry rules and better cross border treatment. About 250 delegates attended as Gov. Horacio Teran spoke. the park plan would span northern Coahuila and Chihuahua.

Brewster County commissioners set October 30 for an election on a $200000 Alpine county hospital bond and a $20000 Marathon emergency station bond. Fort Davis marked its centennial with Oct 9 and 10 festivities drawing 2000 to 5000 attendees from Alaska to Texas. Governor Allan Shivers proclaimed Fort Davis Centennial Days and ceremonies celebrated the 1854 founding and varied military use of the post. A Saturday parade featured ancient vehicles and a flag display while four generation families joined in reunion scenes among participants in period attire.
