A large plaster relief map of the Big Bend National Park area, completed by CCC workers and shown in Austin and elsewhere, will stay in the Sul Ross museum. The 10 by 14 foot two-section map weighs 2000 pounds and details park topography, canyons, mountains and roads.

Teachers Attend Fort Davis Meet For Big Bend Unit
About 78 teachers from Brewster Presidio and surrounding counties attended the Fort Davis high school session of the Big Bend county unit of the Texas State Teachers Association. Charles H. Tennyson urged progress and education standards while La G. Hinkley of Marta was reelected Tri County Association chairman. The next meeting is planned for Sul Ross College in Alpine in March. refreshments followed and the session closed with note of continued discussion.

Alpine Man Killed in Truck Crash in Brewster County
Gordon Holloway aged 88 died late Sunday night when a truck skidded on gravel near Dry Creek Crossing on the highway to the Big Bend area. Ernest Thornton and Dove Lara, both of Alpine, were also aboard. Thornton suffered head cuts, Lara escaped with minor bruises. Holloway died about 15 minutes after the crash. state highway employee assisted at the scene along with Justice of the Peace Raymond Garnett and Chas Livingston.

Marathon Scrap Drive Organized At School For October
October program at the school outlined a scrap iron drive running October 1 to 17 with students forming a junior army led by the superintendent as colonel and teachers as captains. Grades are grouped for collection and a half holiday awaits the top group. Prizes offered for posters slogans and best paper. County trail truck offered to aid hauling and local chairman Mrs Allie Davis invites groups to place iron in back of her house.

Alpine Quietly Hosts Roosevelt Visit Sept 27
The president rode through Alpine early Sunday morning on a secret swing around the United States. A special eight car train including Secret Service men passed through at 4 25 am on the Southern Pacific. It stopped briefly at Valentine for water and paused in Uvalde for a moment where the president met former Vice President John N Garner. The trip remained unpublicized until his return to Washington.
