Sul Ross State College Lobos celebrate a strong 1960 football start as they host Texas Lutheran in the home opener at Martin Field. Tomorrow’s non conference tilt features detailed lineups for both Sul Ross and the Alpine Bucks, with a rivalry that has grown into a season shaping clash. Undefeated Lobos Open Home Season Against Lutheran Nine

Sul Ross State College football team, riding a standout season, hosts Texas Lutheran College at Jackson Field. The Lobos boast three straight wins and perfect start after beating Southwest Texas 20 to 7, with earlier 20 to 7 scores against New Mexico Western and Eastern New Mexico. Proceeds from concession stands benefit athletic scholarships run by the Alpine Lions Club in partnership with Sul Ross State College.

Support Asked In Selling Lobo Tickets

Jack Stovell, business manager of Sul Ross State College, asked the Alpine Lions Club for help in selling season tickets for Lobo home games at a Tuesday noon meeting. Tickets cost 5 dollars for four games, saving 1.60. Lions members may sell and the club booth operates at Jackson Field. Bradford Walters was introduced as a new member. J. R. Ide oversaw the program. Mrs. Martin L. Garter Jr. and two children, David and Mary Ann, of Amarillo, stay with her mother Mrs. J. C. Ep person and the James W. Glasscock family this week.

Big Bend National Park Travel Jumps 6.6 Percent Year To Date

Travel to Big Bend National Park rose 6.6 percent for the year to date, per figures released this week by Stan ley C Joseph. Visitors totaled 82 570 through September 30, up from 58 674 in the same period last year. Overnight stays in campgrounds rose to 18 088, up from 12 002 in 1959, with increases also seen in park concessions and saddle horse use at the Chisos Basin Remuda.

Beef Field Day Planned at Bill Sobs Ranch

Dr. Everett Turner of Sul Ross State College announced a Beef Field Day to be held Friday at Bill Sobs Ranch ten miles south of Alpine on Highway 118. A noon chuck wagon lunch precedes a 1 PM cattle grading demonstration. Texas A&M’s D Butler was invited to attend as part of the event’s ranch education aims.

A Brewster County committee formed to support Nixon and Lodge for president and vice president. Temporary chairman Paul R Des Rochers and permanent officers named including Mrs King Terry Jr as chairwoman and Milton Smith as finance chairman. Headquarters to be established as Conservative voters urged to join, Democrats not leaving their party.

Antelope Season Nears End in Trans Pecos Area

Antelope season in the Trans Pecos area closes Friday evening after a seven day hunt that began October 1. Grady Nelon reported 190 antelope processed at his Alpine locker plant, with field weights 65 to 70 pounds. Biologists issued 1649 bucks and 381 does. Next major hunt is deer season opening December 1 for eight days.

Serviceman Injured In Mountain Fall Near Fort Davis

Roger L. Willard, a military serviceman based in El Paso, broke both ankles when he slipped during a mountain climb near Fort Davis yesterday. He and a companion were ascending when he fell into a tree. An ambulance ferried him to Marfa Alpine Airport, then a government plane airlifted him to El Paso. The partner escaped injury.

Alpine High elects freshman officers and upperclass class officers

Following Alpine High School, freshman officers have been elected with President Bill Stowell, Vice President Alfredo Leyva, Secretary Elisa Espanosa, Treasurer Margaret Morrow, and Student Council representative David Forchheimer. Upperclass officers were chosen in the first ten days of school, since they were already familiar with routine.

Sul Ross Lobos Home Game Tickets On Sale In Alpine

Sul Ross State College offers season tickets entitling fans to attend all home Lobos games. Tickets priced at 5 dollars are available at seven Alpine firms including Shepperd Jewelers Alpine Drug Forchheimer's Model Shop Watson's Watch Shop City Drug White's Highland Village and others. Remaining home games include Texas Lutheran Lamar Tech Sam Houston and Howard Payne with dates October 8 15 November 5 and 19.
