Teacher Receives Grant for Verbal Behavior Lab
National Institute of Mental Health awarded Dr. E. B. Coleman a 4085 dollar grant at Sul Ross State College to create a basic research lab in verbal behavior. This follows a prior 17500 dollar NSF grant for improving the comprehensibility of printed materials. Prof. Coleman, Johns Hopkins PhD, experimental psychologist and Linguistic Society of America member, aims to aid teaching material design and to explore pre packaged sentence readability. He notes readers’ eye jumps while scanning text and seeks experimental validation of group reading patterns.
