State Plans Quail Hunt in Brewster County Texas
The Texas Game and Fish Commission invites requests to hunt scaled quail on the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area near Big Bend. Two 2 day hunts offer 80 permits total, 40 per hunt, with 12 quail allowed daily. Applications due by 8 a.m. October 31 in Austin, via postcard. A public drawing will select hunters.

Judge to Attend Austin Gathering
Judge C. E. Patterson of Alpine plans to attend the annual Texas judges conference opening Thursday in Austin. The three day meeting at the Commodore Perry Hotel will draw about 300 judges and is led by San Antonio appellate judge Jack Pope. Lucy Jo Clark daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Clark was named Alpine High School Coronation Queen for 1963 by the student body. Runoff elections were held and the court will be presented at a future coronation. Homecoming Queen and other court roles begin voting Oct 8 with events through Oct 19 and a Homecoming dance that same weekend.

Burrows Dies Here At 49 In Alpine Death claims local resident
Douglas Burrows 49 of Alpine died at his home Saturday of a heart attack. Funeral services were held Monday at Marathon Baptist Church with burial in Marathon. Survivors include a son Charles and his mother Mrs. W. C. Burrows of Sweetwater, three sisters, and four brothers.
