Everett Townsend, veteran Brewster County peace officer and ranchman, finally secures a long sought role aiding the Big Bend National Park land purchase. After 40 years of pushing the idea, Townsend now works with Frank Quinn to complete the park land acquisition following the $1.8 million appropriation. Townsend envisions the vast Rio Grande region becoming a national park in the 1990s.
