Sul Ross State University Lobos complete a 10 game undefeated season and accept a bid to play in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando on New Year's night. The team is pictured with players, coaches, and staff in a multirow group shot.

Mr and Mrs J FE McSpadden of Fort Stockton spent Sunday visiting daughter Mrs Cecil LaBeff and family and sister Mrs Edith Caldwell.
Marathon reports quote Senator Connally and Interior Secretary Krug reassuring residents and park supporters that Big Bend National Park will keep its name. Krug says only a Congressional act could alter the name and the department would oppose any change. Local Texans and park service alike prefer the existing title.
Alpine Country club completes moving plans for a 92 by 40 foot Tshaped building on a seven and a half acre tract near Kokernot lodge. The asbestos siding unit, secured from the airbase, will be installed adjacent to the arroyo with a 60 day moving and remodeling timeline.
Everett Ewing Townsend longtime Big Bend advocate and commissioner died at his South Alpine home after years of illness. A former Texas Ranger deputy U.S. marshal and sheriff he championed the Big Bend park from 1933 when he helped push the initial park bill. His efforts culminated in 1943 with the deed to the National Park Service and his 1947 appointment as commissioner.
The Sul Ross State College Lobos of Alpine Texas, undefeated and untied, depart Christmas Day for Orlando where they will face an unnamed opponent in the Tangerine Bowl on New Year's night. The Rossonians will stop for workouts in Houston Baton Rouge and Tallahassee before arriving December 29. The Lobo band will not make the trip due to distance and cost.
San Angelo hosts the 33rd Annual Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association convention December 6 7 and 8 at the Cactus hotel with about 700 ranch men expected. Fort Stockton president Clayton Puckett urges attendance as officers seek member guidance. Speakers include Robert F Pent J M Jones P O Wilson F Eugene Ackerman Bryant Edwards and Paul Walser among others. A feature will be a Make It Yourself with Wool show sponsored by the association.
The Sul Ross Lobos overwhelmed St Michael's Red Knights 77 to 6 to cap a 10 straight win season. Ted Scown scored six times and Jerry Barton added nine extra points as Sul Ross totaled 431 points for the ten game slate. The victory sealed a two year conference unbeaten streak and crowned one of Sul Ross' greatest teams.
Fred Wilkinson from Menard Ralph Wheat from Eastland and Ed Steel from Throckmorton finished first second and third in the Senior Livestock Judging contest at Texas A&M College The next four places went to J Fred Davis Smithville Ralph Meriwether Alpine Lucian Kruse Cameron and James Stroope Waxahachie Winners will represent A&M at the Chicago International Livestock Show Bill Warren was the judging coach.
Mrs. J. W. Vance of Coleman auxiliary president says winners in the local contest will enter the National Wool Association event during its February 1–4, 1949 annual convention in San Antonio.
