County Falls Short of War Bond Quota by $7000
Brewster county trails its November quota by about $7000 in war bond and stamp sales. G W Baines, chairman of the county War Finance committee, said the November target is $20,600 and purchases through Wednesday total $13,218.70, not counting Alpine post office sales.

Kerensky to Speak at Sul Ross College Auditorium
Alexander Kerensky former Russian premier will lecture at Sul Ross College auditorium November 29 at 8 00 p m with no admission charge. Assembly programs for students and friends are set for November 29 at 4 00 p m and November 30 at 10 15 a m. Kerensky will discuss Russian United States relations democracy in Russia and lasting peace among other topics. He has been in the United States since the fall of France and will be in Alpine from November 28 to December 1.

Wedding Soldier Fails To Help Marksmanship
Mrs. Paul C Schrimsher formerly Connie Duncan wed Sgt Schrimsher in the army stationed between Marfa and Alpine. A noted sharpshooter she visited her parents in Bullis Gap Brewster County and hunted with her rifle. She bagged a four point buck but had to shoot twice to down the game.

Fort Davis Boy Writes Home From Concentration Camp
Cpl. Jose M. Tercero, son of Mr and Mrs Navor Tercero, reports from a German camp that he is well and healthy. He says he has not received letters yet, asks for cigarettes or tobacco, and shares prayers for the end of the war. His letters arrive in his own handwriting on a folded envelope marked by U S censorship.

Baptist Brotherhood hears Chaplain Cox at Fort D. A. Rus well
Chaplain Cox of Fort D. A. Rus well in Marfa spoke at the Baptist Brotherhood monthly meeting held Monday night at the church. Visitors Rev Wilson Akins pastor Marfa Baptist church and Verdon Elwell attended. Twenty two were present.
Many Hunters Reported In the Davis Mountains Territory This Season
Fort Davis reports a busy hunting season with about 126 licenses issued locally, plus many who already held licenses. Capt. Robert Snow notes a record license sale while several hunters from Weatherford Coleman Mineral Wells Dallas and Fort Worth posted kills on J. W. Friend and Richard K. Merrill ranches. A 315 pound black bear was shot on Star mountain by Jim Espy after sheep losses, and a 26 point duck was recorded on the Roy Nunn ranch.

Mrs Winn of Sul Ross Faculty Joins the Waves
Mrs Georgia Ganewinn associate professor of English at Sul Ross left Alpine for Northampton Massachusetts to begin an eight week indoc trination period at Smith College. Upon completion she will be commissioned as ensign or lieutenant junior grade. She has taught in West Texas three years and is a native Texan born in Blossom. She holds a degree from East Texas State Teachers College and a master's from Peabody. She completed PhD requirements at Pittsburgh. She plans to return after the war.

Impressive Thanksgiving Service At Baptist Church
An early morning Thanksgiving service at the Baptist church drew a large local audience with participation from all city churches. Rev. R. L. Wittner presided, Rev. Marvin Williams delivered the message, and the mixed-church choir was directed by Mrs. Jack Davis. The program included prayers, hymns, scripture, and a sermon by Rev. Williams Long, with most Alpine businesses closed and city schools dismissing for the holiday.

Repair Work Starts on Border Patrol Building Fire Damage
The Border Patrol garage partially destroyed by late October fire begins repair. Roof damage is being replaced and the building will serve temporarily as a repair shop and car storage. The fire destroyed the repair shop. H. H. Weyerts holds the rebuilding contract.

Purple Heart Award for Marine Pie Hill Family
Mrs. 7 M Hill receives Gold Star and Purple Heart for Pfc John W Hill USMC killed in action in the Pacific. John also earned three stars and two bars of merit, honorable mention, and Asiatic Pacific Medal. Son Hughes on furlough now rests in Bremerton Oregon hospital after six major Pacific battles. Dunlap, son-in-law in medical corps, shipped overseas weeks ago with no word.

Alpine Man Loses Arm After Accidental Rifle Discharge
Berry Wilson, Border Patrol mechanic, was shot in the arm by an accidental rifle discharge. He underwent surgery last weekend with amputation of the arm and is reported making satisfactory progress. Wilson had just returned from a Presidio trip related to his work when the patrolman’s rifle discharged as it was removed from the car.

Gas Rationing Simplified By Higher Value Coupons
The OPA reports a simplification plan effective December 1 with B and C gasoline books containing fewer coupons, each worth five gallons. New B-2 and C-2 coupons will replace older issues as they run out, while pre December 1 coupons stay worth two or three gallons by region. The change improves convenience but does not increase overall gasoline allotments.
