Armistice Day Observed With Parade Service and Game

Armistice Day activities included a morning parade led by the High School band, a one hour church service at the Methodist church, a barbecue at Kokernot park for Legionnaires and families, and a night football game between the Sul Rose Lobos and Schreiner. A large crowd attended the church program with A Owers delivering the address and Carl Thain as master of ceremonies. The event featured a concert by the Sul How band and a radio speech by National Legion Commander Chadwick. Local businesses closed for the observance. A lighthearted note mentions Judge J Henry Johnson of York, S C proposing a hip pocket ban on trousers to deter pistol carry.

Story of One Armed Powe Thrillin One

Story of Henry Harrison Powe, one armed after the Civil War, whose Confederate coat hangs in Sul Ross College museum, is recounted. He moved from Crystal City to the Davis Mountains, was killed in a 1890s cattle-branding clash, and his tale is tied to Texas frontier law and later lore.
