Laundry Mark Triggers Arrest in Auto Theft Case
William Doyle Purcell of Wicket is arrested on auto theft charges after a laundry mark linked him to the crime. Texas Ranger Arthur Hill statesPurcell allegedly stole a 1949 Ford sedan from Brewster County on February 25. the car was found abandoned and trousers with the mark were traced to Monahans where Purcell was held on other charges.

Gay Meriwether Dies in Brewster County Ranching Leader
Rancher Gay Clifford Meriwether died after a heart attack Wednesday at a local hospital. Funeral services were held at 10 am in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Clanton Newbill presiding. Burial followed in Elm Grove Cemetery under Livingston Funeral Home. He would have turned 62 on Nov 26, survived by his widow, his mother Mrs. Lucy Meriwether, two sons Billy and Ralph and three grandchildren Gay Kay and Lillian, all of Alpine. Born in San Antonio he had farmed in Brewster County for 30 years and was a World War I veteran and active member of Alpine’s Presbyterian Church.

Ban On Parking Along Holland To Be Delayed
The city delays a planned ban on parking along the south side of Holland Avenue until traffic surveys justify the action. Holland Avenue carries U S Highway 90 within city limits. Jim Skinner, sheriff tax assessor and collector, was the high vote getter in Brewster County's general election with 1214 votes, running unopposed. District Attorney Lucius Bunton followed with 1212 votes as ballots were canvassed by the Commissioners' Court last Friday and final reports mailed to Austin by County Judge Felix McGaughy.

Turkey Shoot To Be Held Nov 24 By Big Bend Club
Big Bend Sportsman's Club will hold a turkey shoot at the rifle range west of town on Saturday November 24 from 10 a.m. to dark open to the public for men and women ages 6 to 60 with a goal to give away 25 turkeys.
