Open House At Alpine Garment Plant This Monday

Alpine Garment Factory at 111 N St offers an open house Monday afternoon from 3 to 4 30 pm. Jim Casner, president, invites Alpine and Big Bend residents to visit the plant to see it in full operation. The firm employs 32 workers with weekly wages over 1000 dollars. Miss Connie DiNatale will guide tours, refreshments served, visitors usually not allowed in production areas. The plant makes girls and boys boxer shorts for the Spring trade with garments sold nationwide.

County Gives Big Majority To the President in Brewster County

Brewster County voters backed the president with 837 votes to 479 for Democrat Adlai Stevenson and 8 for T. Coleman Andrews. Price Daniel led governors race with 1090 ballots, while Republican William R. Bryant won 185 votes. W. Lee also listed.

Alpine to vote at Brewster County Courthouse for amendment vote

County Judge Felix McGaughy announced Alpine voters will use the Brewster County Courthouse as the sole polling place for the Amendment No section next Tuesday November 13. Residents in Marathon Big Bend National Park and Terlingua will vote at their usual locations. The amendment would provide up to 20 dollars monthly to totally disabled persons under certain conditions.

Election results and ballot issues in Brewster County

Daniel received 38 write in votes. Rutherford, the Democratic nominee, garnered 933, while GOP contender Charlie Gibson of El Paso had 281. All eight amendments favored, with No 4 Teacher Retirement winning 1106 to 85. Ballot shortages prompted borrowing from Precinct 2. County Clerk J W Frazer noted print runs tied to total poll tax receipts with exemptions plus 10 percent. Precincts 1 East 1 West reported early results, followed by Precinct 5 Big Bend National Park, 3 Marathon, and 2 Centennial School. Terlingua Precinct 4 reported yes yesterday morning. Magnolia Brings 22 Persons Here to Alpine

Twenty two persons moved to Alpine this week as Magnolia Petroleum Co began geophysical exploration in Brewster County. G B Davidson leads the crew and opened an office beside The Avalanche. The Magnolia party includes Mr Davidson, several couples and children, among them Mr and Mrs J H Lee, Mr and Mrs Donald Daulong, Mr and Mrs H L Ward, Mr and Mrs Clinton Citrler, Mr and Mrs Louis Antoine, and Mr and Mrs Kenneth L Lively with their children.

Veterans Day Observances Planned Across Brewster County

Three Veterans Day events are scheduled in Brewster County on Sunday November 11 with a VFW Hall Alpine dance at night a flag raising at 8 am and Mass at 9 am at Our Lady of Fatima parish a memorial service at 11 am in Marathon First Baptist Church and a voter program at 3 30 pm at Methodist Church Alpine sponsored by American Legion Big Bend Post 79 and Auxiliary.

Sul Ross Exhibit to Open Nov 13 by Cecil L Casebier

Sul Ross State College Arts Department will sponsor an exhibition and sale of pictures by Cecil L. Casebier a native West Texan and nationally prominent artist beginning Tuesday Nov 13 and continuing for two weeks Casebier born 1922 in Fort Stockton studied at Sul Ross USC and University of Texas He has work in Life magazine and stained glass for St Luke s Church San Antonio His works appeared in Art in America Art Digest and Southern Artist He has won multiple prizes including Texas Water Color Society and Texas Annual awards through 1950s.

Catholic Men's Club Barbecue For New School

The Catholic Men's Club will host a barbecue at 11:30 a.m. Sunday on church grounds to raise funds for the new Catholic School. Adults pay $1 per plate and children 50 cents.

Two Cars Recovered in Alpine After Thefts

Local officers recovered two automobiles last week in Alpine. A 1952 Oldsmobile 98 stolen in Del Rio was found abandoned here, and a 1953 Mercury registered in San Antonio was also located.
