Texaco Gifts Mineral Rights for Guadalupe Mountain Park

Texaco Inc has conveyed all mineral rights in the Guadalupe Mountain National Park area to the National Park Service. Joe Markley of Texaco Midland delivered the deed to Frank Kowski of the Park Service, in Midland. Congressman Richard White praised the gift as vital for West Texas recreation and national recognition.

Regents Order Final Library Plans for Sul Ross College

Regents of Sul Ross State College direct final plans for a new library to cost about 1 020 000 dollars funded mainly by bonds with a federal grant approved earlier. The building will sit northwest of the Administration Building and plans are to be presented at a February regent meeting.

Alpine City gears sewer plans tied to federal grant

Alpine officials anticipate a $41 547 federal grant for sewer improvements. Engineers Ken Esmond and Wade Howell said plans must be submitted by Feb 1 1968 and that a $5 000 planning fee plus $7 709 for supervision would apply. The council may renew the contract later. two members were absent.

Corkins Resigns From City Council After Move Outside Limits

Bob Corkins resigned at Tuesday's council meeting because his home now lies outside city limits and outsiders are ineligible for council service. Effective Nov 1, the move lets him vote on Tuesday's actions. No successor plans were announced. Corkins was elected last April and now lives in Sunny Glen west of Alpine. formerly at 600 E June in Carpenter addition.

New Yale Lights Ordered for Alpine District Decoration

New Christmas decorations for Alpine’s business district are set to be in place by December 1. Six new light streamers cost 17150 each, totaling 1029 with city funding of 399 and the rest donated by merchants. The project is led by Stacy Watson and council members George Drewery and Frank McCollum. The lights will line Holland Avenue and the Fort Davis Highway intersection, with potential salvaged old streamers. The Links of Alpine High will appear on KOSA TV November 6 during High Noon, featuring Terry Pack Johnny Justice David Newell Jon Paul Goodman and Chuck Burling.

Absentee Voting Deadline Extended for Alpine Election

Absentee voting for the City of Alpine 19 cent sales tax election will run through Friday November 10 per City Secretary Marjorie Graham. The sales tax vote is set for November 14 and could add about 32000 annually for city operations.
