Texas A&I Javelinas traveled to Sul Ross for Homecoming and edged the Lobos 33 14. Hollingsworth opened scoring with an 80 yard run, adding another TD before halftime. The Our Lady of Fatima chapel in New Town was dedicated last Sunday at 11 am with about 1000 attendees. Local and visiting priests officiated including Bishop Metzger of El Paso and Frs. Steffen, Smith, Placido, Maria, and Leonard. Funded by community donations totaling around $19,000, the chapel features an altar statue from Spain and a bell from Santa Ines Temre. Construction began in May by Jesse James Construction Co using local labor and materials.

About 90 Rotarians and guests attended the annual inter-city Ladies Nett meeting of the Alpine Rotary Club at the Holland hotel. Bob Clark, former Sul Ross football star and Odessa schools PE director, headlined with magic and sleight of hand. Alpine Man Purchases North East Texas Ranch
Alpine resident Clay Holland announced purchase of a 2700 acre stock ranch eleven miles north of Honey Grove in northeast Texas. He and his son Pat plan to operate the ranch with Black Angus cattle and move in after remodeling. Holland previously sold his Presidio county ranch on July 1 to the Fowkes brothers.

The Soil Conservation district based in Marfa announced its annual grass identification contest for Saturday at 10 a.m. on North Sun Street near Alpine Drug Store. Three school teams from Sanderson, Marathon, and Alpine will compete in Greenhand and older chapter levels, with about 79 students expected.
