Ten Miles Of Alpine Park Road Readied For Traffic
The first ten miles of the Alpine Terlingua Big Bend park road are completed and open to traffic. A five mile stretch from Big Hill was finished, with work starting immediately on the next ten miles funded last month. State highway maintenance crews are carrying out the construction.

Alpine Cowboys defeated the San Angelo Greyhounds 13 to 6 at Kokernot Field in a home talent contest. Newman pitched seven innings for Alpine, allowing six hits and three strikeouts while Greyhounds starter Solis exited in the third. The Cowboys erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning aided by Greyhound errors as Davis collected four singles. Union building foundation laid at Sul Ross College
Work began last week on the foundation for a new student union building to be moved from the air base to Sul Ross college. The brick veneered structure will measure 178 by 101 feet and include a 121 by 36 foot social hall, a recreation hall, kitchen and rooms for student publications. The Sul Ross Ex-Students Assn led by Gordon Griggs aims to raise funds to furnish lounges for men and ladies, inviting ex-students and others to participate through press and radio outreach.

Seventy-five Rossonians Graduate At Sul Ross College
Sixty five Rossonians from 36 Texas counties and three other states received degrees at Sul Ross College Monday marking the twenty eighth commencement. President Richard M. Hawkins presided while Dr H W Stilwell addressed graduates. Rev J J Copeland delivered the baccalaureate sermon Sunday evening. Summer term starts June 2 with record enrollment anticipated.

Mrs. M A Webb was informed of her mother's death, Mrs J D Hughes, in Pittsburg Texas. Burial took place at Arp Sunday afternoon after Webb had returned from her mother's bedside.

Funeral services held for C. M. Wilson pioneer West Texas resident
Graveside rites were conducted at Elm Grove cemetery for Charles Martin Wilson 88 who died at his daughter’s home in El Paso. He came to West Texas in 1880 lived in Pecos from 1892 to 1918 then Kennedy ranch Jeff Davis County near Alpine before moving to El Paso. Survived by widow two daughters three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Rev Frank Walker led the service with local pallbearers from Alpine Pecos and Marfa.
