Churchill warns of iron curtain and Russian world domination
Churchill writes in a May 12 1945 telegram to Truman that Europe faces a shifting balance of forces as American and allied troops move to the Pacific and German populations flee westward. He foresees Russia expanding influence east of a line from Lubeck to Trieste to Corfu, potentially dominating the Balkans and Central Europe as German resistance diminishes.
