City to Continue Center Payments in Alpine

Alpine will keep paying 25 dollars a month to the Alpine Community Center after a City Council vote on Tuesday. A rental contract of 300 dollars a year was approved, with payments to the Center, and legal clearance cited by City Attorney John Allen.

AHS Summer School To Begin on May 29

Alpine High School officials announce 1967 Summer School fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency. Program offers up to 1 1/2 units, with most schedules yielding one credit, no graduation credit, and requires principal or counselor approval for non Driver's Education courses. Classes run Monday through Friday from May 29 with Saturday sessions on July 8. July 4 is a holiday. Fees: 1/2 unit 22.50, one unit 40, Driver's Education extra.

Regents CK Plans For Dorm Approval

Regents CK approves final dorm plans for Sul Ross State College to house 372 students with a 400 seat dining hall and kitchen. Board also approves Sul Ross faculty recommendations for Summer 1967 and 1967-68 sessions, with salaries pending legislative funding. Dr Norman McNeil represented Sul Ross at the Austin meeting.

Astronomers To Be Honored At McDonald Observatory Reception

A reception honoring visiting astronomers will be held Friday from 4 to 5 30 p m at the home of Dr and Mrs Norman L McNeil of Sul Ross State College. The McNeils will host, with Alpine Chamber of Commerce board members aiding as hosts to welcome McDonald visitors and staff.

Koch Named Park Group Chairman in Alpine Texas

Peter Koch of Alpine is named chairman of the Big Bend National Park Development Committee, succeeding Herman Ledbetter of Marfa who has led since 1964. Dick Rogers remains treasurer and Hallie Stilwell secretary, with Alpine directors Paul Forchheimer Hugh White W.J. Newell Homer Hudgins Forrest Walker J.E. Casner plus Marfa's Eph King Bob Bledsoe Dutch Arthur Molly Lowther Ledbetter. A Marathon director will be appointed soon.

Alpine Jaycees AJRA Junior Rodeo Entries Invited

Alpine Jaycees announce the AJRA approved Junior Rodeo at Sul Ross Rodeo Arena July 13 to 15 with co chairs Somny Richardson and Jimmy Gibson. Events include ages 12 and under through 19 with flags, barrel racing, roping, pole bending and bull riding. Entries due by July 5 via Alpine Chamber or AJRA Comanche HQ.

Goodyear competition to crown top conservation district

District Eaters and Water enters the 21st annual Goodyear event to name the nation's top 53 conservation districts. Judge panels from key agricultural leaders will pick three state winners based on 1967 soil conservation efforts. 106 men will be guests at Goodyear Farms near Phoenix for work-stay trips in December 1968.
