Gas Firm Ends Management Contract May 31

Southwest Texas Municipal Gas Corp will terminate its management contract with Hunter Industrial Management Co. on May 31 by mutual agreement. William C. Cole will remain with Hunter and move to Comanche to serve as supervising engineer for a new water treatment plant project for the Upper Leon River Municipal Water District. The firm will hire a new manager directly, and personnel may transfer to the corporation.

Alpine Police Salaries Raised by City Council Action

The Alpine City Council approved a police budget increase totaling 95 dollars per month for four officers including Chief Jack Johnson whose pay rose from 425 to 450 dollars. The session also reviewed Master Plan related payments and street repairs.

Alpine High Grads Receive Diplomas in Friday Ceremony

Sixty one Alpine High School seniors will receive diplomas in the AHS auditorium with a Friday night ceremony. Mary Jacobina Skinner will deliver the salutatory, and Deborah Kay Boysen the valedictory. Supt Clarence L Winn will introduce graduates as honor graduates are listed with National Honor Society members.

Sul Ross to get largest Texas college funding boost

Special to The Avalanche reports Sul Ross State College will receive over 2.5 million dollars next fiscal year, the largest Texas college appropriation, with Senate and House bills differing by about 350 thousand dollars. The measure includes 150 thousand dollars for a Big Bend adjacent project and 245 thousand for mineral rights funds for Guadalupe National Park, plus Fort Teaton rebuilding funds.

Ivey Rogers to Receive Ranching Award Tuesday

Alpine Lions Club and Big Bend Soil and Water Conservation District announce a conservation awards banquet at the Holland Hotel on Tuesday May 23. Alpine Seeks Bids for New Municipal Pool

City Council authorized bid call for Alpine’s municipal pool pending state plan approval. Odessa engineer Ken Esmond submitted plans to council after showing them to Texas Health Dept and Wildlife and Parks in Austin.
