Alpine High School's Bucks swept Pecos Eagles in a two game bi-district series at Kokernot field and in Pecos to seal the championship. Escareno and Robinson hit home runs for Alpine while Parker started for Pecos and struggled with six walks. Alpine's offense totaled nine hits in the first game and combined with solid defense to limit Pecos scoring.

Local Bakery Sold to Frost Baking Co of Monahans
Sale of Hudson's bakery to Frost Baking Co of Monahans was announced last week and completed last Saturday. The purchaser will close the Alpine shop and move equipment to serve the Alpine area from the Monahans plant by truck. E. R. Hudson operated the bakery since 1924 and may remain in Alpine with plans still indefinite.

Degrees to be conferred on 74 Sul Ross graduates Monday

Charges Filed After River Shootings In Lajitas
Sheriff Jim Skinner filed charges of assault with intent to kill Monday in Justice W. G. Fielder's court against Hector Cota a Mexican citizen who fled to Mexico May 9 after shooting Luther Watters 24 and his brother Jim 22 at Lajitas on the Rio Grande Both Watters were seriously wounded Luther was dismissed from the hospital Tuesday and went home to Alpine Perry Johnson’s Alpine residence.

Rains and showers sweeping the Big Bend-Davis mountains report totals from about a half inch to over three inches in scattered ranches and towns. Heaviest in Strauss and Davidson ranch areas near Alpine, with others including Fort Davis, Glass Mountains, and Marathon posting lighter totals and hail in parts. Roadways along Highways 90 and 67 were flooded or slowed by water Monday night.

Trio Escapes With Lives In Canyon High Water
An Odessa trio narrowly escaped a flash flood near Lympia canyon Fort Davis after their auto and a tractor were swept downstream. They found refuge on a fallen cottonwood tree as waters rose to subside by morning and received aid from Gabriel Salsido’s home nearby.

Brewster county chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis held at the Holland hotel elected Kenneth Stucke as head of the county March of Dimes campaign succeeding M. C. Alpine High School Graduation Sets Record Class
Alpine High School announces fifty eight seniors will receive diplomas at commencement next Wednesday at the school auditorium. W B Dorris Sr and Mrs Virginia Bailey of Alpine were honored at the 16th district American Legion and Auxiliary meeting in Kermit. Dorris was elected district commander and Bailey district Auxiliary president. Dorris led Legion work as three time commander of Big Bend Post 79 and five years on the Fifth division Americanism committee.
