Norman Cash Named Lobo Captain for 1955 Season
Sul Ross State College athlete Norman Cash will captain the Lobos for 1955. A senior guard and standout all star in the conference, Cash led in ground gains in 1954 and carries a physical education major. Dr. Clifford Casey says bids will be asked soon to fence the Alpine Community Center. Excavation proceeds satisfactorily. Board members met May 12 for the last gathering until October. Mrs. Mabel Hamilton reports high demand for meetings parties and showers and a summer program with sewing classes play activities and a story hour.

Three Alpine High students Freddy Davis Terry Beckett and Phil McGaughy will attend American Legion Boys State in Austin June 5 to 11 as chosen by Big Bend Post 79 Alpine. Davis and Beckett are honor students with multiple letters in football basketball track and baseball and active in Student Council and choir. McGaughy, also a distinguished student, lettered in football track and baseball and was a two year member of the school a cappella choir.

The new Magic Chef cafe, a $20 000 steel and porcelain building, opens tomorrow at 6 am at 908 E Holland Ave adjacent to Elliott's. Alpine Bucks Rally to Clinch Bi-District Baseball Title
Alpine High School defeated Pecos 10-5 to seal the bi district championship in a two of three series. Vicky Hefez pitched the final game, Oscar Martinez won the opener, and Pecos hitters Cassell Waldrop and Walker led a strong effort while Alpine catcher Scottie Escareno topped the bats with four for six across the two games. Local Showers Tap Alpine Area Amid Wider Rain Report
Light showers fell around Alpine while rains were noted north and east of the region. Sims Ranch reported 14 inches last Saturday and Harris Ranch 40 inches in the area. McGill Ranch 40 inches at Hovey with some overflow, and McDonald Observatory recorded just over an inch. Fort Stockton saw a two inch downpour with hail and wind and crop damage. No rain here since Tuesday last week when 10 inches were tallied. Mr and Mrs W E Vannoy attended the funeral Tuesday of Mrs Vannoy s brother W C Wise in Gatesville Texas.
