Valadez to Be Ordained As Priest Here Tonight
Rev. Jose G. Valadez son of a grocer and one of fourteen children will be ordained a priest at Our Lady of Peace church Alpine on Thursday May 19 at 6 30 p.m. Bishop Sidney M Metzger presides in the first ordination in the West Texas deanery. He will offer his first Solemn High Mass Sunday May 22 at 5 p.m. with a full clergy and choir. A reception at Alpine Community Center follows.

Resolution on Engineers Alters Alpine City Council Action
The Alpine City Council passed a revised resolution about Engineer Ken Esmond and Hydrologist Ed Reed after Mayor W E Lockhart vetoed a May resolution. Esmond will stay as consulting engineer completing the Master Plan and Reed as hydrologist until their current studies and reports are finished. The vote was unanimous with absent Alberto Rojo. The meeting also addressed Sid Richardson building a horse pen with neighbor protest possible, retirement coverage for city employees, a janitor hire, a copying machine service contract, and payment to Raymond Skelton for operating the county bulldozer at the city dump.

Sul Ross adopts new class system next fall
Sul Ross State College will switch to a state supported class system starting next fall becoming the first in Texas. Classes will run on a Monday through Friday schedule with no Saturday sessions except for education and graduate courses. Enrollment is set for Sept 1 and 2 with finals before a three week Christmas break and a 10 day spring vacation.
