In Alpine last Saturday the 120000 water system improvement bond issue passed 270 to 249, a total of 519 votes. R A Underwood of Dallas will oversee bond sale and has received affidavits on the outcome. City officials plan to complete bond sale by July and order fittings in June. Mayor W E Lockhart notified the surplus property agency that 5.13 miles of cast iron pipe from San Felipe Springs to Laughlin AFB will be moved to Alpine by May 19, with ditch restoration potentially extending due to rain and flood damage. The project cost about 25000, including pipe salvage and transport, plus a GMC truck and trailer. The cash performance deposit of 750 will be refunded after Del Rio work concludes.

Sul Ross College rodeo team is favored to win the regional event at San Angelo and advance to the National Intercollegiate Rodeo in Klamath Falls Oregon July 3 4 5. The team leads regional standings after five rodeos with 2774.5 points and posted top finishes including four riders with high point totals and an alternate filled roster due to Texas Tech shortages. Clean-Up Week runs May 25 to 30 in Alpine and Brewster County with residents asked to pile dead trees and debris near alleys for city and county trucks to collect, likely in early June. Frances Miles installs a color blender enabling 1200 blends from nine base colors with white as base. The Paint Pot displays color charts, assigns a unique number and formula to each blend, and records the customer name for exact future reorders. Millington Rites Friday for Pioneer Civic Leader
Millington, a pioneer civic and cultural leader, died in Brewster County Memorial Hospital early Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at the Millington Home in Presidio at 10 am Friday with Rev. Charles Conder officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in the family burial ground. She came from Waxahachie as a teacher, helped lead the Big Bend DAR chapter, and was active in Colonial Dames and Texas Federated Women's Club work in Presidio. Survived by son Walter of Los Angeles and no brothers. The body lies in state at Kelley Funeral Home until burial morning.

Area Keeps Air Service to Alpine and Marfa Approved
The Civil Aeronautics Board examiner approved continued air service by Trans Texas Airways to Alpine and Marfa with renewal expected to become final in 10 days if no appeals are filed. Congressman J T Rutherford reported the favorable decision, following a Dallas hearing earlier this year on service to Alpine Marfa Pecos Fort Stockton and other West Texas communities.

6 To Attend Mexico Meet
Six representatives from the Big Bend Davis Mountains area will attend the 10th conference of the International Good Neighbor Council in Tampico Mexico from today through Saturday. Supt and Mrs George W Miller and Asst Supt and Mrs Hank Schmidt of Big Bend National Park toured via car to McAllen crossed the border and flew from Reynosa to Tampico. They will return home Sunday. Also attending was W J Newell of Alpine chairman of the Big Bend National Park Development Committee.

Marfa Production Credit Association marks 25th year
William Stokes, president of the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank of Houston, will be principal speaker at the Marfa Production Credit Association's 25th anniversary meeting in Marfa Saturday May 23. The noon luncheon precedes the meeting. In 25 years the association loaned over 100 million dollars to farmers and ranchers across West Texas counties including Brewster Presidio Pecos Jeff Davis Reeves Ward Culberson Hudspeth El Paso and Terrell. In 1958 the Marfa credit association loaned nearly 11 million and expects to exceed 12 million in 1959 to its about 200 members.
