Cowboys and Stars Split Lone Star Exhibition Series
The Alpine Cowboys split a two game set with the touring Ligon's All-Stars from Brawley Calif winning 11 7 on Saturday and dropping 4 7 on Sunday. Roy Peden led the Cowboys with two doubles a triple and two singles across the pair. New man and Wally Davis added doubles for the Cowboys while Newman earned the complete game win on Saturday. On Sunday the Cowboys could not hold a three all tie as five late errors cost them the game with Remling allowing ten hits and White seven strikeouts. Lightning Williams provided comic relief for the crowd in both games. The Cowboys are idle next weekend due to the rodeo.

Tommy Roberts a senior at Alpine High won second place in extemporaneous speech at the state finals in the Interscholastic league meet in Austin. Soil Conservation Board to elect three supervisors this week
Three supervisors for Sub-Divisions 1, 3 and 5 of the Big Bend Soil Conservation district will be elected this week. Ballots mailed to participating ranchmen will be checked and returned to the local AAA office by tomorrow. David Combs of Marathon and J W Pate of Alpine are chosen as supervisors for Sub-Divisions 2 and 4. The district meeting with lunch will be at the Community Center Pecos on May 15 noon. Reservations for lunch should go to Neel Thompson, chairman, by tomorrow.

Three burglaries were reported in town last week. The Watson-Anderson Gro Co was entered last Sunday through a north window. money was sought but none taken. Brewster County Motors was entered Wednesday night with nothing missing. Nixon-Starnes Motors on East Holland was broken into Wednesday night with a sledge hammer, about 50 dollars from the safe and 15 dollars from the cash drawer.
