Over 80 women from Brewster and Presidio Counties have registered for the Alpine proposed children's clothing factory. More applicants 18 and older in Alpine Marathon Marfa Fort Davis and nearby areas are invited to take aptitude tests. Ten sewing machines are in use as training proceeds under Carlotta Rodriguez with M Gene Benson coordinating registrations. The Chamber of Commerce aims to raise 30000 with pledges and money to fund the project. A 2000 weekly payroll is projected and upon securing 50 skilled seamstresses a factory will be built. Tex Son Co of San Antonio will buy the entire output.

Cowboys To Note 10th Anniversary Schedule Revealed
Cowboys baseball announces their 10th anniversary season with two games at Kokernot Field against the Boeing Bombers of Wichita. The opening game is set for Sunday June 3 versus the Alpine Internationals, with visitors from Grand Junction and Casa Grande. The Milwaukee Braves will run a baseball school at Kokernot Field June 28 to July 1.

Meetings Set to Discuss Trans Pecos 1956 Game Laws

County Approves Marathon Area Water Survey Contract
Brewster County signed a contract with the State Board of Water Engineers for a three year water survey starting July 1. The county will fund 5000 dollars annually, matched by the State Board and the U S Geological Survey, with initial work focused in the Marathon area. The previous U S G S survey in Alpine located the Terry water well now owned by the city.

State and federal agencies join the anti rabies drive in Brewster County with bait meat from Highland Hereford Breeders Assn. Dr Joe E Wright county health officer announced the effort to ranchers in Alpine and Marathon. Dar win Ivey of the Federal Wildlife Service coordinates the bait distribution at watering holes with a special unit from Ted Horner’s West Texas Ice Co plant in Marathon assisting. County Agent Frank Newsom notes Alpine and Marathon pickup points and says bait use will be based on watering places per ranch as ranchers are urged to act quickly after four rabid foxes were found locally. The four foxes were killed on Willoughby Ranch near Marathon and near Alpine Central School and Loop Road residence. Veterinarian Kenneth Wuss arrived from the State Health to oversee the program.
