Almost all fixtures and furnishings have arrived for the First National Bank’s new home in the Holland building, with marble in the front and walnut finishes throughout. The bank expects to move this weekend, creating one of West Texas’ finest modern bank facilities after consolidation with State National Bank last year.

Pat Read a U S Border Patrol member stationed at Alpine was elected commander of Big Bend Post No 79, American Legion, at a Sunday meeting, succeeding Lee Wakernot. Walking program completes 1200 ft of new sidewalks
Approximately 1200 feet of sidewalks will be finished by week’s end under the ongoing program. A crew of 20 men, funded by the local relief office, laboring at about 20 cents per lineal foot. Property owners may arrange for their walks now, with some cost savings. Next week the crew may add one or two more screws, says engineer J. A. Stovell, with contact through Mr. Stovell or Mayor T. R. Moody. Granada Prize $50 headline notes a money night drawing at the Granada theatre. if winner Mrs. A. E. Owens is absent, the prize rolls to next Tuesday.

Isolation of Loco Weed Poison Key Found By Researchers
Researchers at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station and Piney labs isolated the poisonous principle in loco weed named locoine. Drs G B Japs, E C Carlyle, and Fr P Mathews used chemical separations fed to cats to identify toxicity. Loco weed spreads from the Rocky Mountain grazing area to the Mexican border, posing a hazard to livestock nationwide.

Fort Davis May 8. Vast blasting shakes Musquiz canyon as a new state highway replaces the old road built by the Tenth U.S. Colored Cavalry more than fifty years ago. The project removes two hairpin turns famed for danger and stiff breath holds, rewrites local lore, and honors Gen. H. B. Grierson’s troops.
