Sorghum almum described as grazing forage crop

COLLEGE STATION Sorghum almum a tall grass that grows in Texas is described in a new leaflet by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. The hybrid between Johnson grass and sorghum resembles Johnson grass but has wider leaves longer and more spreading heads and taller first-year growth. Used mainly as grazing crop it is harder to cure for hay than Johnson grass and offers no clear advantage over sudangrass as a temporary summer pasture. Survival over second and third years is erratic. Extension pasture specialist E. M. Trew notes it may be an immature grazing crop or weak perennial for temporary pasture.
