Highway Progress Plans Extend Toward Pecos County Line
County and state officials outline bids for about 13 miles of highway east of Marathon toward the Pecos county line with 18 miles left between Marathon and Pecos. The Marathon to Pecos segment will be shortened by about 9 miles. The Jeff Davis to Alpine Alpine to Altitude road is nearly finished excluding surfacing, about 24 miles long. State crews have taken over maintenance and equipment was moved for the Alpine Marfa road project. A rumor claims a shift in federal aid from Alpine Fort Davis to Marfa Alpine, but verification is lacking. Officials still seek an extension to meet the El Paso highway.
