Chicago To Play Baltimore Here Thursday City Election

Three candidates, Mayor Hugh S White, Chalmers Broadfoot and Dr W E Lockhart, seek three posts in a City Commission election to be held next Tuesday at City Hall Holland Avenue from 8 am to 6 pm. Incumbent commissioners Jim Casner and Ray LaBett did not seek re election. The new commission will assume office Wednesday April 4. No formal write in campaign announced.

Legion Auxiliary Meet in Alpine Praised as Success

The American Legion and Auxiliary held a district convention in Alpine with 288 Legionnaires and 192 Auxiliary members registered. New officers were elected: William R. Lowry of Odessa became district commander, Ray Jones of Monahans vice commander, Florence Kelly of Odessa sergeant at arms, M. L. Hopson of Alpine judge advocate, Charlie Maisel of Odessa chaplain, and Mrs. Maurice Rubby of El Paso district president of the Auxiliary, with Mrs. C J Brown of Kermit elected vice president, Mrs. H D Casey of El Paso secretary, and Mrs. Cecil Sullivan of McCamey chaplain.

3000 Bleacher Seats for Cubs Orioles Tilt at Kokernot Field

Major League Baseball returns with the Chicago Cubs meeting the Baltimore Orioles at Kokernot Field on Thursday at 2 p.m. 3000 general admission bleachers go on sale for 50 cents. 400 reserved seats remained as of yesterday. An arrival by special train includes players and officials. pre game workouts, concessions, and a Sul Ross Band concert precede the game followed by a barbecue at Berrenda Flats. The Cubs feature Don Hoak Walt Moryn Russ Meyer and others with pitchers Bob Rush Warren Hacker Sam Jones and Paul Miner.

DAR Dedicates Texana Library Dedication at Sul Ross College

Mrs Fenx Arwin state regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution officially dedicates the Texana library at 3 90 p.m. Sunday March 25 in the Sul Ross College Main library. DAR gift of 3000 established the collection on the Southwest with a formal program led by Mrs H W Morelock and presided by Mrs R D McCready. Dr Wildenthal college president received a gold key. Morelocgy president emeritus was seated onstage. An informal reception followed.
